Who IS Nadya Suleman, and what is the real story about this woman who irresponsibly and immorally had octuplets, when she already had 6 other children at home, ranging from 2 to 7 years- old! We first heard about the miracle babies before we knew anything at all about her, but the more we learn, the more I am convinced something is desperately wrong with her; and what started off as an interesting anecdote for fertility treatments, has turned into a moral and ethical quagmire. Should she have had more children? Should the doctor who treated her have implanted 6 more fetuses, when 1 or 2 is usually considered the norm, and implanting more is a danger to both mother and babies? Should he be sanctioned? Should she be allowed to keep all 8 newborns? Should the taxpayer have to pay to support her and her kids?

Cobbled together from information garnered from an exclusive interview on Dateline NBC, several newspaper articles, and an interview with Nadya’s mum, Angela, on radaronline.com, nothing is what it seems to be. The line between truth and fiction have become blurred, and the actual truth might never be known.

What we do know is that the 33 year-old mother of 14 kids, is -

1. Single and lives with her mother and father in a small, cramped, messy 3 bedroom house.

2. Nadya’s mother, Angela Victoria Suleman (a retired schoolteacher), had to file for bankruptcy last year.

3. Nadya’s father, who is supposedly Palestinian or Iraqi (depending on which article you read) is returning to Iraq to work as a contractor so he can support the horde, because Nadya stopped working as soon as she started giving birth.

4. Her other kids are 7, 6, 5, 3 and 2 year-old twins.

5. Nadya had all 14 children through in-vitro fertilization (IVF). Nadya claims it was by the same doctor. Angela, her mum, claims that after the doctor who impregnated Nadya with the first 6 refused to comply, she found another one.

6. No-one knows who the father actually is. According to Nadya it’s a friend; but according to her mum, the sperm donor was her boyfriend, who she refuses to marry. Mum says he’s the father of all 14, but who knows.

7. She was married and divorced. Though who knows if this is true.

8. She has always wanted children. This obsession started when she was a teenager. She got pregnant at 16, subsequently miscarried, and doctors discovered her fallopian tubes were clogged. She tried many times thereafter, to get pregnant until she found that IV worked.

9. She’s a liar. Three of the 6 older kids are autistic, and she receives disability payments from the state of California for them. Although she claimed, in her Dateline interview, that she is not on welfare, she has been receiving $490 month for food stamps, which will increase with the new additions.

The whole situation wouldn’t have created such outrage were it not for the fact that California taxpayers are probably going to have to foot the bill for this woman’s obscene fascination with childbirth. She’s a single, unemployed mother of 6 who just added 8 more. She has no visible means of support, other than her parents. Giving birth to the octuplets, including the extended stay, is going to cost from 1.5 - 3 millions dollars. And who do you think is going to pay for that?

“...the hospital where the octuplets are expected to spend seven to 12 weeks has requested reimbursement from Medi-Cal, the state’s Medicaid program, for care of the premature babies, according to the Los Angeles Times.“

Her mum is fed up and tired of taking care of the kids. I want to know how Nadya is going to take care of all those children on her own? It is said that some of the octuplets will probably have health and mental issues, so how is she going to manage those plus the 3 disabled children she already has?

Apparently she has set up a website begging for money. And it seems that in spite of the lack of income and her enormous family, she somehow found enough money to get plastic surgery, and is slowly morphing into a creepy version of Angelina Jolie.

You have to wonder how this happened. But, somewhere along the line a very sick, selfish young girl was failed- by her parents and ultimately by the doctor (or doctors) who agreed to allow her to have so many kids. And the taxpayers are eventually going to have to pay for it all.
