Poetic Justice- Israel wins historic Davis Cup Quarter final
After all the hell the Israeli Davis Cup tennis team members were put through in Malmo, Sweden, the fact that they beat the Swedish team, in an historic comeback, must make the victory even sweeter. This was the first defeat ever for the Swedes, and only the second time Israel will move on to the quarter finals. That, in itself, is quite telling.
The win, by Israel, has particularly interesting implications, if you look at what they had to deal with, along with the Swedish police trying to protect them, over the weekend. Unfortunately, people weren’t very sportsmanlike about the whole situation. Thousands of people from Sweden, and other nearby countries, flooded the streets of Malmo to protest the few members of the Israeli team. And, as often is the case when leftists and Muslims get together, the protests became violent, turning into the usual anti-Semitic, Jew-bashing events they all love to participate in so much.
In the following video you can hear them chanting anti-Semitic slogans:
“Khaybar, Khaybar, ya Yahoud, jaish Muhammad sa yaoud.” Translation is “Khaybar, Khaybar, Oh, Jews, the army of Muhammad will return.”
Note, not Israel, not Zionists- Jews. And as a refresher in history, the Khaybar battle was when Muhammad slaughtered the Jews who had been living there for years, and enslaved their women and children.
Most tennis fans and the Israeli players were surprised and horrified at what happened in Malmo. Swedish blogger Ilya Meyer interviewed police, fans, Israeli team members, and others and none approved of what occurred and the damage to the reputation of the country:
The Israeli team members expressed their astonishment over the situation. One player said that they travel the world playing tennis, including the Middle East, but that nowhere have they ever encountered the sort of hatred and naked anti-Semitism that they witnessed in Sweden. The police bore the brunt of the violence, however. Meyer explains why:Another player said that one might have an opinion on the policies of countries such as China, Russia, Dubai, Turkey, countries about which there is some controversy regarding human-rights issues and political freedom, but that one leaves politics behind when the time comes to play tennis.
Another team member who understands Arabic pointed out that the protests did not appear to be political in nature but instead racist. He did not understand how Sweden, previously a renowned beacon of freedom and democracy, could accept being taken hostage by what looked like race riots.
The demonstrations were against the enormity of allowing a handful of Jews onto Swedish soil to play tennis. Because the police, in particularly unsportsmanlike fashion, erected barricades and refused to let the demonstrators tear the Jewish tennis players limb from limb, the mob turned its attention on the hapless officers. Sitting inside their vehicles, the police were subjected to what could only have been a truly terrifying rampage as fireworks, granite cobblestones, even bicycles, were hurled at them and the rioters started tearing the vehicles apart.
Watch how the protesters turn into virtual animals, in this video:
I’m sure they were all praying that Israel would be defeated, but guess what?
They say Karma is a bitch!
