Pakistani Christian Boy Wounded By Taliban Dies

It’s not good to be a Christian in Pakistan. Actually it’s not good to be any religion, other than Muslim, in Pakistan or any other Muslim majority country. And if you happen to live anywhere near fundamentalists, like the Taliban, not being Muslim could mean death. If they have no compunction about killing those within their own religion, why should they care less about killing a non-Muslim, which is exactly what happened to an 11-year-old Christian boy in a town near Karachi.

On April 22, armed Taliban attacked some Christians living in Tiasar Town (a suburb of Karachi), wounding 6 (3 seriously, including the boy Irfan Masih) and setting on fire 6 homes. The boy was shot in the head and died 5 days later. There was also word that bibles were removed from several homes and burned. What do you suppose the reaction would be if Christians had burned Korans? I think we all know the answer to that.

The attack was instigated because the Taliban were angry the Christians had the audacity to erase Taliban-generated graffiti.

According to NCJP [National Commission for Justice and Peace] activists, the Taliban attacked the Christians because they were wiping off insulting graffiti from the walls of local homes and the local church. The Taliban had scribbled words that incited hatred and violence, like ‘Taliban are coming’, ‘Long live Taliban’ and ‘Be prepared to pay Jizia (Tax for non-Muslims) or embrace Islam’.

Not until several hours later, when the Pakistani paramilitary arrived, did things settle down, since the local police refused to get involved.

Only about 700 Christian families live in that area, and they deserve to live in peace, practicing their own religion, without fear of violence, death or having to pay a Jizia!

Sumit, I saw this too. They actually confiscated property. And they are fellow Muslims. Just not the right kind, I guess. Very sad.

More violence against civilians in the name of religion. When will we see justice done, and recognition from mainstream media outlets?

I think the answer to your question in the current scenario is ”never”.

The civil society must be supported and a big ”NO” to extremism from any corner should be the voice of every citizen.

Ikramuddin is right, Hareem. And I have no idea why the mainstream media refuses to publish such things.

And extremism and fundamentlism in any religion should be eradicated.

Democrats now control congress, the presidency, the judiciary and the bureaucracy. Imagine the horror of having to live among these animals?.

Travis, I understand your frustration.. and though they might kill this country in other ways, at least we still do have some freedom here.. particularly to worship as we please.

You accuse the Taliban-Terrorists of Barbarism but consider the fact that in the Bible we read that God's "chosen people" massacred entire populations of cities. Moses people slaughtered even the infants in the cities they assaulted. More recently, the European Christian nations that colonized Asia such as the British also slaughtered vast numbers of people - and the Anglican & Presbyterian ministers supported them. The British churchmen in Bengal India were involved in the British East India Company that was growing opium and selling it in China. Why do Asians pay respect to the Bible religions? It is madness.

I would argue, it’s not particularly good to be a Muslim in Pakistan either.

Exactly! They have conflicts amongst themselves too....Shias kills Sunnis every other day and poor people are living in slums while shias enjoy all the luxuries of life.

This religion is sick
