Some people are opposed to the death penalty, but in cases of mass murder, and when there is no doubt that someone committed the crime, there is no reason not to rid the world of evil. One such person, John A. Muhammad, also known as the D.C. sniper, deserved to be put to death and he was. Executed tonight at 9 p.m by lethal injection. Now there’s one less criminal the taxpayers have to sustain.

For 3 weeks in October of 2002, Muhammad and a young accomplice 17 year-old Lee B. Malvo terrorized the Washington D.C. and surrounding areas- Virginia and Maryland. Muhammad and Malvo systematically targeted white people with sniper fire while they were at gas stations, or shopping, or mowing their lawns. They even gunned down a young boy at school. Muhammad killed 10 people, wounded several more, and both have been implicated in murders in Louisiana, Alabama and Arizona.

John Allen Muhammad (formerly Williams) an ex-military man and Muslim convert (Nation of Islam) had some very bizarre motives,

held a deep grudge against his ex-wife and society. During the Maryland trial, Mr. Malvo testified that the intent of their shooting spree was to create havoc to cover for Mr. Muhammad’s plans to kidnap his three children. The longer-term goal, Mr. Malvo said, was to extort law enforcement to stop the shootings, after which Mr. Muhammad would take the money and move to Canada with Mr. Malvo and his three children. There, Mr. Malvo said, Mr. Muhammad planned to create a training ground for 140 young homeless men whom he would send out to wreak similar havoc and to “shut things down” in cities across the United States.

Letters and drawings (see above) by Malvo while in jail, indicate that the sniper killings were more than likely part of a Jihad against the U.S.

While the letters and drawings express a wide range of militant sentiments, the most recurring theme is that of jihad - or holy war - against America.

“We did not start this flame, we merely picked up the torch,” he wrote on the drawing showing bin Laden near a police officer in a rifle’s sights. “Ye shall all die! Every last one.”

Malvo, now 24, received life in prison without parole.

John Allen Muhammad, was remorseless to the end.
