I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like to live in total fear. Although I have lived all over the world, the countries were always democracies; and in the U.S., freedom has always been cherished above all else. For the most part, people don’t need a strict, religious ideology to know right from wrong. Most of us are born with a moral compass that steers us correctly through life. Most religions reinforce what we already know.
However, there are countries like Saudi Arabia, with their strict brand of Islam and their oppressive religious dictates, that have people living in total fear. Women are total non-entities; they have to cover themselves from head to toe because Muslim men apparently have no control over their libidos. Ironically, they still rape women.
Women can’t mingle with men, because, well- obviously men have no control over their libidos. Do Muslim men have so little control? Obviously Saudi Arabia thinks so. The fact that the Islamic kingdom has established the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (aka the notorious religious police) to regulate every aspect of a Saudi’s life, means they have no faith in the individual’s capacity to regulate their own lives with a certain modicum of moral restraint. To think that people actually believe that 2 human beings, male and female, can’t socialize without it becoming sexual is mind-boggling. I have many male friends, and that is all it is. Friendship.
Which makes the following story even sicker.
Khamisa Mohammed Sawadi, a Syrian woman who happens to be 75-years-old, has just been sentenced to
40 lashes, four months imprisonment and deportation from the kingdom for having two unrelated men in her house,
The 2 men happened to be in their mid 20s, and one of them, Fahd, claims he had been breast-fed by Sawadi, as an infant, which (according to Islam) makes him a son, of sorts; so he had every right to be there. His friend, Hadian, accompanied him to deliver bread to the old woman. So the boys are there, doing a good deed, and in barge the Saudi religious police. The 2 young men are arrested, as is the woman, and all 3 sentenced to lashes and jail time. The judge dismissed Fahd’s claims he was a son through breast-feeding, so Fahd gets 40 lashes and 4 months, and Hadian gets 6 months and 60 lashes. Why the discrepancy? Who knows! What I want to know is what on earth do they think the 3 were doing, that they deserved to be arrested and sentenced so harshly? It takes a truly sick mind to believe that there was anything untoward happening in that house. And then, to cruelly whip, jail and then deport the old woman? Is there no mercy or compassion in Wahhabism? Obviously not. So much for tolerance.
And another case of that oh-so-evil, non-Islamic practice of unrelated men and women ‘mingling’. Though not charged with a crime, 2 Saudi novelists were arrested and questioned, last week, after they dared approach a female writer at a book fair in Riyadh, in order to ask for an autograph. How asinine a reason to arrest someone is that? Do the religious police have nothing better to do?
And, we all know that women are not allowed to drive cars in Saudi Arabia (other than in a few rural areas), who knows for what ridiculous societal reason, and they’re subject to arrest for that infraction. A 20-something year-old woman was arrested in Mecca, recently, for the terrible crime of driving. Her nationality and name were not revealed, so it probably was a foreigner, but
“The woman tried to escape when she saw a police car and in the process hit another car, which was slightly damaged,” Maj. Abdul Mushin Al-Mayman, a police spokesman, told Arab News.
And no-one knows how many others have been arrested for the same reason.
How wretched to live in a society where the government dictates every aspect of how one lives, and rules the people through fear. Freedom is one of God’s many gifts to His children, He must be horrified how some use Him to instill fear and control others.
The U.N. is a totally useless organization that does virtually nothing. And no-one dares indict Islam,on an official level, because of the fear of a violent backlash.
I always marvel at the feminists in this country who have absolutely nothing to say about the right’s abuses for women in cultures/religions like this.
The problem is, Islamic governments like Saudi Arabia and Iran are traditionally patriarchal, factor in women being generally considered nothing more than birthing machines, it behooves them to keep women subjugated. Unlike Pakistan, that embraced women... like Benazir Bhutto etc, they want to keep women down.
It is wrong on every level, even if the young man hadn’t been breastfed as a child.
No do they want to catch up.. and in some cases, like northeast Pakistan and Afghanistan, you have the Taliban that want to drag those countries back to the dark ages.
Thank God, for people like you, my friend. And if there were more like you, people would be having absolutely NO issues with the religion. As with all religions there are things to be admired and things to be critical of... problem is those things to be criticized are taking center-stage these days.
And wonderfully put... Islam should be about progression.. All religions need to evolve and adapt. Not to say that everything needs to be thrown out, but we die if we don’t evolve.
I know, I know, it's a culture I'll never understand, but this is just wrong. If anything, people should be glad they weren't born in a country like this. What a joke..
There are actually people who don’t mind living under those conditions, or at least that’s what they say.. a blogger here on IB, in fact.
I’d kill myself.
Indeed... Iran is another form that is almost as oppressive.. but Saudi Arabia and the Taliban controlled areas of the world are equally oppressive. And people need to know what goes on there. Hopefully, holding it up to the Light, will change it, down the light.
I think the reason why i have seen so much Peace in Saudi Arabia is because of giving da’waah (propagation) of Tawheed (Monotheism). And working all over the world for it. And forbidding Polytheism and getting rid of it from Saudi arabia. I have seen the work in progress of one of the world tallest sky-scraper. However, there are things that we wouldn’t see in Saudi Arabia like women driving, women without being covered, men and women at the same spot for any unvalid reason, music in places specially like Makkah and Madinah etc.
Women driving is not something beneficial for women in Islaam. So i don’t think women should drive. For example a woman driving a car goes out and the tyre goes puncture what she’d do? She would ask another person to help her when he would be non-mahram (a person not allowed to talk or communicate unless its for seeking knowledge etc) so this way the openness would come into society which Islaam really forbids. Islaam try to help women so that their dignity and respects would be saved. If women would be too open in the society and she would be going out and asking this and that person for anything that would not really protect her dignity and chance is that shaytaan (satan) make a trap for her and she gets fallen it. No doubt this could even be for a man but see the basic fault was of a woman, if she didn’t show up or show her fac etc the tribulation wouldn’t have appeard.
Now the thing to understand is why people dislike this is becausae they are living in west or sometimes the liberal people of east too. In west the women gets humiliated all the time and they think its freedom. Most of women get raped in west, many of them even can’t say it because of societal pressure. You can hardly find the Virgin girls at 18 or 20 in America any more. I dont want you to just believe in me rather google it up and see the statistics for let say ’America’ and you would realise what i am trying to portray. So i say this is for benefit of women by taking precaution measure.
We think that women are better protected when they are at home and men goes out to work. Take care of the women and women brings generations and give the tarbiyyah to them (children) under the shariya and train them. We see the west make both of the parents to work and then what about their kids? Oh i forgot they have friendship with one person, have sex with someone else, and have kids with altogether with someone else. Sorry to say, but we don’t want that to happen with our kids.
No sir, we are happy with our structure. I again standby with my view that women driving is not something beneficial but i wouldn’t say its totally haram (forbidden) for women. If they (women) really cover themselves and have a mahram with them then maybe in future the Saudi govt might allow the women driving. I hope and pray that it wouldn’t happen though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV4Ek4C-Dbk
Women and men in Islaam are really segregated. And this segregation is in every espect of the Life. Pakistan, is a place where this doesnt happen and that is why we see no peace but crimes and discriminations happening with women or men. I also see that in Pakistan women not interested for marriage even when they are getting at as close as 30 only because of their too much of freedom. I say the best freedom is the freedom that Allaah has given us through Qur’an wa Sunnah (prophetic traditions) I pray and hope that Saudi govt gets real strict over segregation and do not accept any so-called super power’s pressure.
Wo do not want our women to become like west. A woman of bikini which has no respect and just live for sex. We also do not want the women to work which is the job of men (basically). We think that women can seek knowledge and should seek knowledge. We think that women’s job is to stay at home and raise the children with manners and teach the childern the patience and islaam which our beautiful religion has taught us. And remember its a full time job, so do not think of it as just a casual thing.
I am pleased your comments do not contain religious quote’s which many non muslims don’t understand. The same as if Christians, Hindu’s or Buddist’s started quoting their religion to you.
One point Boca is making is that women don’t have a choice.
Not all women want to marry or be made to have to have sex or be baby making machines or slaves to men.
Women have - thinking intelligent brains too and their own thoughts, feelings and aspirations.
It seems they only need protection from the men in these societies.
Every one knows Saudi Arabia would be nothing with out oil.
Women should have the choice if they want to drive or not and know how to change a tyre (I can) or have a road assistance program.
You have been to Saudi Arabia but have you been or lived anywhere in the West?
Women are not running around everywhere in bikini’s thats just media hype, and if they were so what, men have to be in control of themselves and stop being cruel and sadistic towards women, because they can’t have everything their own way.
The command to wear the veil is found in both the Quran and Bible. However, the reason for the command is different when you compare the two books.
Lets see what the Quran says...
chapter 33 and verse 59
Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful
So the Quran says that women should wear the veil so that they can be recognized (as pious Muslim women) and then no one would bother flirting or annoying them. There are other reasons given in Hadith but I am just showing the Quran.
Lets compare this with the Bible...
1 Corinthians 11:3-12
Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. A man ought not to cover his head,[a] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. For this reason, and because of the angels the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.
So we see that since the man is the glory of God and the woman is the glory of man then she has to wear the veil as a sign of authority. Her wearing the veil shows that she is subjected in authority to the man. (this is according to bible).
God has made women to get married and have children. If a woman do not want to have children (unless some valid or medical reason) its like she is disobeying God. The currenct democracy circulating in the world is all about disobeying God. And that is why we see so many of problems generating in the world because of this freedom which is actually more about disobeying God. We as a muslim, actually, do not want our women or men to be in a conscience where they want to disobey God. You as a christian or jews and we as a muslim have only 1 Choice which is to follow the holy scripture or be ready to face the God’s punishment in this world and / or hereafter.
I have been to Saudi arabia and I havn’t been to west but yet i have many of friends that have lived in West or living in west so i do get the information. Also, there are things that are common in west which brings disobedience to God like pubs, and dancing clubs and wine and pork eating and sex without marriage and many more. Generally speaking in west when a woman decide to have a kid many a times she have had sex with 6 to 15 people, that is why Aids is even prevailing there. We just do not want to see this happen in our society.
I have asked admin to edit the piece for me, as we have no editing rights, but just in case it doesn’t happen.. the following is the first paragraph or 2..

unfortunately rape is universal but western societies keep statistics. These other countries have very little to show because its hidden and they dispose of the problem.
The women are scared, too frightened to speak out - The consequenses are far worse, if they do - they face severe punishment or death for being a victim, thats the reality not Ideology as you already know.
Why there are rape crimes in the USA? Why there are gay people in the USA? There is mixing there, so what is the reason?
”there are countries like Saudi Arabia, with their strict brand of Islam”
Since when does Islam have brands? This is really new to me.
I’m a Saudi woman and I have said this to you a zillion times before, almost everything you write about Islam and Muslims in the KSA is not true. I do not live in fear and I don’t imagine myself living somewhere else.
Thank you for your care about Saudi women in Saudi Arabia, Incognito. But don’t you think you should pay attention to women’s rights in your country? Especially native Americans. The link you posted for As-salafi to check regarding homosexuality in Saudi Arabia , I found this story on the site
” Rapes of the American Indian and Alaska Indigenous Women in the USA”
”American Indian and Alaska indigenous women are being raped and degraded all the time. There is an incredible injustice going on in the USA because of the way these women are being treated….” http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/949897/incredible_injustice_for_indigenous.html?cat=47
I am very pleased to see that a Saudi woman herself stood up and denied of whatever lies being proclaimed against KSA people, Allaahu akbar. May Allaah unite the muslims on tawheed and may the non-muslim understand and accept the truth of Islaam, ameen.
How fortunate that you have a contented life and never been a victim.
If these things that Boca shows here and also on the internet aren’t true then why are we seeing the actual footages of beheadings, stonings of women, and whippings?
I genuinely feel for all the injustices and cruelty done to the women and children in this world in any country or in the name of any religion.
Reading about outrage from the people in Saudi Arabia against their own laws of a 75 year old women being whipped and jailed for being in the company of a young man she nursed as a baby and his friend who bought her bread. Why?
I have just looked at a site called http://womenagainstshariah.com/
and http://www.amnesty.org.ru/library/pdf/MDE230162000ENGLISH/$File/MDE2301600.pdf
You may find it interesting.

Hi Lynne K.
No, it is not patriotism. And being of a certain country or race means nothing to me . And I never approve of any acts of injustice wherever they are committed.
When I said I do not live in fear, I meant it. If there is a story of an oppressed or raped woman in my country, it does not mean every single woman in Saudi Arabia suffers the same. It’s just I see a lot of stereotyping and generalizing here.
Most laws in Saudi Arabia are Islamic and Islamic laws are perfect and based on justice. And justice must be applied to those who practiced injustice. But Islam also teaches mercy and compassion.
If someone is punished unjustly, this does not mean this is Islam but the one who applied that law is to blame ,and must be punished.
thank you for your comments, I appreciate your views and information, I don’t know what the hadith is but I will research it.
I search for honesty, facts and the truth. I try to also broaden my knowledge and look at different cultures and religions too.
I can see you are a sincere devout good man. You say Allah is ever forgiving and merciful, but I don’t see this being practised by Muslim religious leaders.
When you say to face punishment in this world or the here/after, why does fallible man take it upon himself to punish people so severly and even send them to the here/after in God’s name? God surely can do it himself for he knows the true heart of a person.
hadeeth or Hadith whatever way you say, is the words of prophet muhamamd (peace be upon him). There are different books of hadeeth which have words of propeht muhammad (asw)1. Like Al Bukhari and Al-Muslim are the most famous ones. Then there are others like Abi Dawood, At-tarmidthi, Ibn maaja, Al miskhaat al masaabeeh etc.
The first two one, that is, al-bukhari and al-muslim they are the most authentic ones. Meaning it is ijmaah (believe of muslims scholars altogether) of scholars and Muhaditheen (people who did search on Hadeeth) that al-bukhari and al-muslim are the book of hadeeth which are most authentic and they have no fake or weak reports. Other books may have authentic reports and they may have weak reports too, so scholars worked to find it what reports are weak or what aren’t. I hope now it would be something much better for your and others understanding.
Any person who search for honesty and facts and truth without being biased eventually they find Islaam their life, as according to muslims the jeses, moses and muhammad (peace be upon them all) were muslims (one who submit his will to only 1 God). So i hope that one day sooner or later you’ll find that about Islaam, Insha Allaah.
You are right that Allaah is oft-merciful and oft-forgiving, and thats not what i say but Allaah Himself says in Qur’an, but yet Allaah also says He punishes too. I agree with you that govts of Muslims mostly are into fisq (open sinning) and fujoor (sins) and that is one of the reason we see such tribulation in muslims land.
Now lastly, there are different thinking and ideologies prevailing into the society of Muslims. The core thing should come from Qur’an and Sunnah (acts of prophet muhammad (peace be upon him). But, sad to say that they (people) would fall short of it. Whenever any of muslim try to bring any of its ideology which is according to Qur’an and Sunnah and the methodology was of salaf (pious predecessors) then they would get success within or against Non-muslims. However, the reactionists, they do not wait for anything rather as the crusaders does anything they (reactionsits) just show the reaction. For example, Qur’an says not to disobey your Haakim (govt) even if they are open sinners (rather propagate the good to your govt), but some people do not interpret the right thing from it and leave what the salaf said about this verse in Qur’an, so they let say start fighting with govt of Pakistan, what they should do is keep on propagating their govt the good things. This is something we muslims really lack these days. Also muslims does Jihaad bittaygh (fighting with sword for the sake of Allaah) against kuffaar (non-muslims) not to kill them, rather to make the Islaam superior over other aspects of life. This is only possible when, once the govts in muslim countries actually start living by Islaam.
God, can surely send anyone to hereafter as you suggested, but the Law that He brought upon the people, but its for people to establish it (law) upon them. Angels wouldn’t come to establish it, that is the reason the muslims bring shariyah upon the people and live by it.
1.asw = alayhe salatu wa salaam
alayhe = on him (prophet muhammad) be
salatu = the blessings
salam = and be peace (of Allaah)

Any of their law enforcers who are ordered to carry out this punishment on an old woman - surely couldn’t have any pride in their job for justice.
It’s a really paranoid suspicious society to have to live in and is quite brutal to innocent people.

You may find it interesting.
thank you for your comments, I appreciate your views and information, I don’t know what the hadith is but I will research it.
1.asw = alayhe salatu wa salaam
alayhe = on him (prophet muhammad) be
salatu = the blessings
salam = and be peace (of Allaah)

Any of their law enforcers who are ordered to carry out this punishment on an old woman - surely couldn’t have any pride in their job for justice.
It’s a really paranoid suspicious society to have to live in and is quite brutal to innocent people.
Indeed.. the women’s and human right’s activists have dared to criticise much of what’s going on there.. and with the new shakeup in the government, hopefully they will see some change, including allowing women to drive... but, I think many have no complaints about their lot, in that country, so until enough people take it upon themselves to demand change.. nothing is going to happen.
