Afghanistan :

It's okay for Muslims to proselytize, but not for other religions

It seems the Taliban has demanded that Pope Benedict XVI force all Christians to stop spreading their faith in Afghanistan. In fact, they threatened both the Pope and all Christians (who, for their information aren’t all Catholics) with “harsh reprisals” if they didn’t stop proselytizing.

In a message on their official website they proclaim

Religious leaders and mujahadeen (holy warriors) must keep tabs on the movements of “enemies of Islam” and crusader occupiers” and prevent them from spreading “the propaganda of other religions in the land of Islam,” the message said.

Oh really? It’s perfectly fine for Muslims to proselytize but definitely not okay for any other religions to do the same thing? This is what I call the height of hypocrisy, telling others they can’t do something that you have no problem doing yourself.

Perhaps, all Judeo/Christian nations should do the same thing. Threaten Muslims if they try and spread their faith in Christian lands. I wonder how they would respond to that?

And what about forced conversions that seem to be so prevalent under Islam? Take 14-year-old Pakistani Shah Taj, a young Christian girl who was abducted by several men and then raped by one of them, Mikael, and later forced to sign her name to Islamic conversion and marriage documents.

Apparently,

“The forced conversion of a non-Muslim minor to Islam is a trend that is spiralling out of control, especially since the recent imposition of Sharia law and the increasing Talibanisation of Pakistan.”
And in an article written back in 2007, in the U.K.’s Daily Mail Online, “extremist Muslims” in Britain are targeting teenage Hindu and Sikh females who are then terrorised into converting to Islam.

If Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, as Muslims proudly proclaim, it’s not being done without some form of proselytizing, or sharing of the faith.

I firmly believe in freedom of religion, and find any form of aggressive proselytizing frankly distasteful, whatever religion happens to use those tactics; but if you are going to condemn another religion for “spreading the faith” then you damn well better not do it yourself!

Actually, in North Africa there are many converts to Christianity from Islam. I heard the number is some 667 people per day! Falun Gong is the fastest growing religion on earth. there aren’t a high number of converts to Islam, but Muslims grow in number through high procreation. The average number of kids they have is very high and at a very young age too. Look at any list with population growth rate, Muslim countries stand the highest.

As such all religions other than Islam are banned in Saudi Arabia where the alleged Shari’a law is in practice. Also, same is the case with Taliban rule. They blowed up Buddha statues and find it no problem when others do the same! Remember that inspiration of Taliban comes from Islam itself.

And kidnapping teenage Hindu and Sikh girls just shows their cowardice. I most probably think they are Pakistanis. They have done the same with Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan too. It’s not a joke to bring population of minorities from 20% to 2%.

And freedom of religion? What if certain XYZ religion teaches hatred towards all other religions with no logical base but mere hatred? Why ban cults then? I will come up on a post on cults and religions soon. It’s high time that some modern priest comes and proclaims a new religion of hedonism!

I love it, a new religion of hedonism!

People make new religions every day to get out of paying taxes, to get converts to have sex with, to collect offerings, to use as a shield for all sorts of criminal activities, because everyone is so afraid to challenge anyone hiding behind a religious banner.

Time to view all religion as suspect, and open it all up to scrutiny.

Onehumanity Please,

It could be through procreation, but there are more converts and reverts to Islam than you might think, at least in this country. Just google revert converts to Islam.. there are a ton of them on youtube, and from all religions including orthodox Judaism.

Yes I remember when they blew up those ancient Buddhist statues... disgusting.. but they also have no problem blowing up ancient Muslim structures... just shows the barbarism of the Taliban.

As for freedom of religion... yes, i do believe you should be able to worship as you please, as long as you don’t force your doctrine on others or harm others.. and yes, there are certain Muslims who are guilty of just that, but there are others who don’t and they have as much right to worship their Allah as we do our God.

As for hedonism... not for me. but you go ahead. :-)

Nuya, wow you made some great points here!

”People make new religions every day to get out of paying taxes, to get converts to have sex with, to collect offerings, to use as a shield for all sorts of criminal activities, because everyone is so afraid to challenge anyone hiding behind a religious banner.”

great. Well, I think the same, scrutinize all religions. If they are true, they will pass the test.

Incognito, I’ve heard many of them re - convert back too. The Ex - Muslim websites contact many such converts and try debating them. Many re - convert after those debates. You will find a big list of such converts on FFI.

The prime reason why people convert in West is the Western culture which is increasingly and disturbingly hedonistic. I personally dislike hedonism, but it is most preferable of all problems, for problems in a society will always be there!

And they are following true Islam, Sufism is unacceptable to them (it is even banned in KSA). That’s why they are blowing up Sufi shrines and even Shi’ite mosques and Shia people. For them, no other religion except the self - proclaimed terrorizing ”true” religion is acceptable.

And no, I despise hedonism, but if a hedonist religion comes and allows it all, it will be liked by all! Rape and pedophilia are already allowed in some countries!

A big reason that women in the west convert is because of a man.... they never actually read any of it and when the day comes that it becomes an issue, well, they are out of there, bad mouthing it to no end. Another big reason that young people here convert is because they were raised in uber religious households and it is a way to make their parents suffer for what they put them through as a child. They don’t stay either after they force their parents to accept it, then they are done with it. Lots of gangs in jails recruit for all religions, and the inmates use it as a way impress the parole board.
We have a saying, when people ask if god is missing from your life, they tell you to go look in jail, that is where he is found most often.

I am sure some people join for spiritual reasons but now days, it is more likely to be an ulterior motive.

I know, I am cynical, but I have seen too much not to be.

It seems the Muslim credo is:

We can prosletyze, other religuions can’t prosletyze Muslims.

We can demonize other religions, other religions can’t demonize Islam.

We can practice our religion anywhere we want, other religions can not practice in Islamic countries.

We can demand preferential treatment for our religion in your countries, you can’t in ours.

We can teach hatred towards your religion, your society and your culture, you can’t teach hatred towards ours.

We can destroy your institutions and overrun your countries, you can’t enter ours without permission.

The one-sidedness of Islam is there for everyone to see, but many don’t wish to see it.

Michael Davison, you got it in perfect words!! I don’t have any words for that credo...

The most important line was, ”We can destroy your institutions and overrun your countries.....” Well, almost every so - called Muslim country today was once invaded (overrun) by Muslim goons and bandits at some point of time! Same is the case with the ancestors of Muslims.

Nationalism is growing steadily with globalization. As more and more countries start understanding the kind of imperialism they are victim of, fundamentalism will go down. This is imperialism with element of God!

Nuya, I have always admired your comments on my posts and others that I have read, but I have to respectfully disagree with you, re your comment on Michael.

First of all Judaism does not proselytize, the only 2 religions that do are Christianity and Islam. as for replacing Israel for Islam in any of the other points he makes, you can’t. maybe a few zealots in Israel, but Michael has often criticized those. there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever.
sorry... guess this is one thing we will have to agree to disagree.

The radical Islam is the result of expansionist plans of Pope and Christians. If Christians will stop the forcible conversions all over the world, the Muslims may think of the reconciliation with them.

Who has licensed you to issue such a big statement Arsalan.

Its all because of the ignorance on both sides. How good are our Christian friends educated about Islam or how good are we educated about Christianity?

Isn’t it true that our fellow Muslims categorize in general all non-Muslims as Kafirs? and isn’t it true that after the unfortunate incident of 9/11 all the Muslims have been viewed as extremists?

Please use this platform for building bridges rather than destroying the on going process of indirect dialog.

forced conversion??? that is only done by Muslims, the religion of the sword. No other religion forces anyone to join, nor does it kill anyone who wants to leave. No other religion forces people to obey, none have moral police, none have beatings, beheading, hands chopped off, stoning, Islam is the only religion with compulsion, the rest are free will. radical Islam is the result of power hungry madmen who live for violence and love torturing and killing.

Be whatever you want to be, but don’t force your customs, religion, culture or values on me, just as I don’t force mine on you. If you try to take away mine, I will fight you, but I won’t force my customs, religion, culture or values on you.

You’re right!:D That’s what they are doing now. After 9/11 your stupid x-president George Bush described the so called war on terror as another crusader . And your soldiers are spreading the Christian faith in Afghanistan and definitely in all the places they have invaded.

You invade countries and convert people to a faith by force, lies, and words of love to blind people and make them follow your path. And oh when Muslims want you out of their countries, and stop spreading and converting the poor and hopeless to Christianity , they are evil !

Sigh. So it’s okay for you and your dawah to spread Islam and not Christians to share their faith? That is the whole point of this post, if you bothered to try and comprehend my point. I think proselytizing in ANY form, by either Christians or Muslims is wrong. But my point was... if YOU can proselytize in Christian lands, why shouldn’t Christians be allowed to proselytize in Muslim lands?? Answer me that?

By your logic, Muslims should be sent out of Christian countries for spreading Islam, building Mosques, pro - creating faster, spreading religion through D’awah and lies, and above all for spreading hatred against infidels that goes in your mosques.

Not only Christianity, ALL RELIGIONS are BANNED in your country, Saudi Arabia, if I am not wrong. Correct me if I am wrong please. If a bible is found with a person, there is certain punihsment for it, if I am not wrong. WHy shouldn’t Islam be banned in other countries then, if this is the case? The Buddhists did not ban Islam despite the fact that you blowed up Buddha statues, whereas Islam is not banned even though Muslims have broke down Churches at various places, and there are virtually no Hindu temples left in Pakistan.

Who is practising hypocrisy?

Nuya, if you can point out a single post where I have claimed that “only Israel is right”, then I dare you to show the link.

Let me ask you: what “occupation” Palestinian Arabs were protesting when they rioted and murdered Jews in 1921, again in 1929 and a third time between 1936 and 1939?

Let me ask you: what “occupation” Palestinian Arabs were protesting when they carried out terrorist operations against Israel between 1949 and 1967? The West Bank and Gaza were not occupied by Israel.

Let me ask you: how many Jewish suicide bombers have blown themselves up in public buses, shopping malls, discotheques, schawarma stands and other public places, killing scores of civilians?

Let me ask you: how many Palestinian Arabs are willing to accept two states living in peace side-by-side?

Have you ever read the PLO’s Palestinian National Charter? Have you ever read the Hamas Covenant? Have you ever read Israel’s Proclamation of Independence? Somehow, I don’t think you’ve read any of them.

Here are some links:

Palestinian National Charter (1964 version):

http://www.un.int/palestine/PLO/PNA2.html

Palestinian National Charter (1968 version):

http://electronicintifada.net/bytopic/historicaldocuments/44.shtml

(Note the differences in the two versions, particularly Article 24 of the first version, which was dropped entirely in the second version.)

Hamas Covenant (1988):

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/hamas.asp

Israel’s Proclamation of Independence (1948):

http://www.knesset.gov.il/docs/eng/megilat_eng.htm

Yes, Israel still has a long way to go in making all the points of its proclamation reality, but nowhere in the document will you find even a hint of the “need” to destroy anyone. The same can not be said of the Palestinian documents.

Instead of spouting the buzzwords and slogans you hear in speeches and read in the media, try doing some honest homework and actually learning about the conflict, its roots and its history.

Why are you trying to put yourself on the defense from my understanding of the world filled with religious extremists on either sides?

Does it pain a mind like you or anyone else to talk logic? Isn’t what i commented earlier a reality? Do you know all the things you should know about Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Budhism and other religions which fellow human beings follow the way a citizen of this global village should?

I believe you don’t need to do so because you also appear as a common madrassa student who believes what Mullah’s say is the highway and not what can be understood through dialog and discussion plus the use of intellect.

I wish one day you also start thinking from another dimension rather than the one taking us to a clash crated out of mere ignorance because people like you never give wisdom and intellect a chance to intervene.

Nuya: Exactly who do you think the Arabs stole the land from? Arabs were not indigenous to Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria or Morocco.

Arabs are indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula, not to the rest of the Middle East and North Africa.

If you want to talk about stolen lands, talk about the lands from Morocco to Iraq and Syria, where Arabs stole the land from the indigenous people.

What ”threat” were the Arab riots of 1921, 1929 and 1936-39 responding to, when Arabs ran through the streets of the Jewish quarters of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jaffa, Zefat, Haifa and other cities shoutiung ”Itbah al Yahud!”?

What kind of ”conqueror” comes to a land with farm tools and buys land from owners willing to sell? (78% of the non-state land in Ottoman Palestine was owned by absentee landlords living in Cairo, Beirut, Damascus and Constantinople.)

Influential Arabs felt that ”the jews” might be the only ones capable of resurrecting Palestine from the primitive depths it had sunk to:

Sharif Hussein, the guardian of the Islamic holy places in Arabia, said:

“The resources of the country are still virgin soil and will be developed by the Jewish immigrants. One of the most amazing things until recent times was that the “Palestinian” used to leave his country, wandering over the high seas in every direction. His native soil could not retain a hold on him, though his ancestors may have lived on it for 1000 years. At the same time we have seen the Jews from foreign countries streaming to Israel from Russia, Germany, Austria, Spain, and America. The cause of causes could not escape those who had a gift of deeper insight. They knew that the country was for its original sons (abna’ihi’lasliyin), for all their differences, a sacred and beloved Homeland. The return of these exiles (jaliya) to their Homeland will prove materially and spiritually [to be] an experimental school for their brethren who are with them in the fields, factories, trades and in all things connected with toil and labor.”

Note that he calls the Jews ”the original sons” of the land, and that this was ”the return of these exiles to their Homeland”, which could be to the benefit of all.

Remind me exactly who it was that rejected the partition plans of 1921, 1937 and 1947? Was it the Arabs or the Jews?

As I said before, LEARN SOME HISTORY. The Middle East existed before 1948.
