The poor Somali people- not only are they living in chaos and subjected to violence, the once moderate Muslims are now being subjected to the indignities and religious excesses perpetrated by Islamist extremists.

A few days ago I wrote about how Al Shabaab was publicly flogging women for wearing bras, and forcing them to shake their breasts to prove they were not. Now the fundamentalist group, tied to Al Qaida, ordered several radio stations (Jubba and Warsan) to shut down. Located in southwestern Somalia, neither of the stations were told why, and there were the typical threats if they did not comply.

Apparently they had been forced to stop playing music several months ago, but other programmes airing on the station caused problems:

Then al-Shabab complained about programs the stations aired that were generated by Voice of America and the United Nation’s Integrated Regional Information Networks that included music. The stations’ managers had convinced al-Shabab they have no control over the programs and the Islamist group allowed them to continue airing them, he said.

Who knows what will be next, since practically everything is un-Islamic to these fanatics. And with the strength and determination and the help of foreign fighters, Somalia will probable wind up being an Islamic state run by Al Shabaab.
