Eloping Will Get You Killed In Afghanistan

Being in love can get you killed, if your parents don’t approve and you happen to live somewhere in the wild west, backward, Taliban-controlled regions of Afghanistan and you decide to elope. You see, elopement is

regarded as deeply damaging to family honour across Afghan society

So rather than see a young couple happily married, they would rather have them dead, it seems.

This is what happened to a young couple who were trying to elope and make their way to Iran. Though a little more progressive, Iran is hardly a place one would go to escape harsh religious practices, but that’s where they were headed when they were grabbed by militant Taliban (possibly handed over to them by their very own parents) and gunned down by a firing squad.

One might think it was a question of star-crossed lovers since the 19-year-old young woman, Gul Pecha, was apparently a Sunni and 21-year-old Abdul Aziz was Shiite (and we know how well they get along in Iraq, and elsewhere), but supposedly eloping is considered an immoral act (since that was what they were accused of, ‘ immoral acts’) and some Clerics decided they deserved to die for this.

And it seems their execution was the entertainment of the day, since they were murdered, in cold blood, in front of a large group at the local Mosque.

Not everyone approved, however. Ghulam Azad, governor of the province where the young couple were killed, condemned the act, calling it an “insult to Islam”.

“An unmarried young boy and an unmarried girl who loved each other and wanted to get married had eloped because their families would not approve the marriage,” he said.

“Through legal channels it would take months to prove such a case,” Azad said. “How can these people make a decision in four days and kill them? No one has the right to kill anybody without the decision of a court.”

Indeed, no-one has the right to kill anyone for being in love and wanting to get married.

Although the Taliban, and other religious fanatics consider Shariah Law just and good, it is anything but that.

So terribly cruel and so sad, these murderous retarded morons don’t know how to love another human being, its beyond their comprehension.
These putrid men are just bred from female sex slaves like mongral dogs, with out any genuine love between their parents - forced union.
So they become infected with a bitter, vile genetic hatred that passes from one generation to the next and then God help anyone who wants to love another human to be normal enough to marry for love, it’s unbelievable that two single young people in love can’t even get married.
A sickening wicked society completely void of any joy or happiness - especially when there is no room for love at all.

LynneK, It does seem that one would have to be devoid of love to be able to carry out those kinds of things. Because if you truly love, you would want the best for your family and friends.

It is terribly sad.

This is common in south Asian countries. Rather, worse things happens in the middle of india and other places.

And they call it honor killing....my foot

Neha,

Honor killings (and absolutely, there is no honor in that) take place across the world, but yes exclusively in the south Asian community. I don’t know how you re-educate people that it’s a horrific practice.

I personally think these backward inbred societies are truely unable to understand or comprehend a better way of life for themselves or each other, for they have been bound and held back for centuries in ignorance and can’t see beyond their own little world of fear, violence and madness.

Lack of education, ignorance and poverty keep them there or the fear of their religious leaders who don’t know any better either.
It’s like trying to expain to worms in the bottom of the garden that spaceships and men have been to the moon and Mars actually has fossils - totally beyond them. Thick!

I agree Lynne that its beyond their comprehension. however, these problems are much deep rooted here in Asia. Daughters are killed before they are even born...if in any case she makes it to this world, she has to abide by the rules and laws of forefathers who only considered her a piece of lather who can work according to their wishes.
Its not just Afghanistan...its everywhere in Asia. A majority is impressed with the western culture of free thinking but when it comes to practicality they will shun it by saying the evil western values.
its very conflicting here and you definitely will be shocked to see the realities that go unreported. its much more worse than u have heard by now.
