So, baby-faced Barack Obama was at a campaign event in Beaverton, Oregon, where he proudly proclaimed that he had visited all 57 states in 15 months, with one left to go! I started wondering which countries the U.S. had somehow appropriated, and which might they be, because although I did not grow up in this country, I know there are definitely NOT 57 States in these United States of America.
Yes, people makes mistakes, and I have no problem with that, but I do have problems when it becomes partisan.
There have been Republicans who have made similar gaffes, and they have been practically crucified. Had it been John McCain who had declared there were 57 States, the mainstream media would have pounced on that, as would have Obama’s camp, claiming McCain was incompetent or senile.
But what I find interesting is the following:
There are 57 member states in the Organization of The Islamic Conference most of which are Muslim. They have a permanent delegation at the U.N. Their goal:
“to promote solidarity among all Islamic member states.”
Although I’m not sure we can really read anything into it, it is interesting, nonetheless. And whether it is mere coincidence or honest flub, it does make one ponder.
